The Role of Parents against Bullying in the Modern Age
Bullying has been one of the most problematic and most persisting issues throughout the world. According to recent studies, about 77% of all students have experienced some kind of bullying more than once in their lives as students (A4kclub.org). Moreso, it was reported that a significant number of the children who experience bullying has had thoughts about commiting suicide for at least once in their lives.Most of the time bullying happens through verbal, physical, and emotional means. This makes it easier to mitigate especially for educators and other authorities alike because the effects are much easier to see as well as it makes the perpetrators easier to identify. However, because of these changing times, the channels of communication for bullying has also changed from personal to virtual ones. This is called Cyberbullying, and reports have said that thousands of children in the United States alone are experiencing cyberbullying that leads to psychological issues such as the degradation of one’s self-esteem. To add to this problem, the perpetrators are not that easy to identify since bullying through social media does not even need to be channeled directly towards the victim. In line with this, I believe that because of these changes, the role of parents as preventers should also change, especially when dealing with adolescents who are just trying to discover who they are and find new ways to do things ...
