My mother once told me that pain is the worst thing a human or any other living creature can be subjected to. Although I disagreed with her owing to my thoughts about death, I have grown to understand her concern and yes, she was true. Today, millions of animals are used every year for testing. In the U.S alone, it is estimated that over 26 million of them are used for commercial and scientific testing (Humane Society International). The testing procedures are done to test various things such as the toxicity of medications, development of medical treatments, and checking products safety before availed for human use among others. It should be understood that although animal testing is beneficial, it is a cruel procedure that denies the animals their freedom to enjoy life, and so it is necessary for alternative methods of testing to be adopted (Szumer 8).
Despite the many benefits accruing from the animal testing, much concern has risen over the infringement of the rights of these animals (Sun 84). During such testing procedures, the animals are subjected to intense stress and pain, which interfere with the quality of their lives. Although some of them end up dying, some stay for long...
