Injustice of Police Brutality
On March 28, 2018, the New York Times reported that 14 officers beat up 4 black men after a dispute in one bar. An off-duty officer thought that the black men was whistling at his girlfriend but actually whistling to get the attention of the bartender. According to the African-American patrons, they were punched and kicked to the ground where significant injuries resulted from the assault (Hasaan). However, these occurrences of police brutality are common not just in one country but around the world. According to Al Jareeza, "police abuse in France is an everyday thing." Police brutality can be linked to certain locations where crime is more rampant. According to another report of the New York Times, in the Philippines; however, the current President call to arms all police officers to "Slaughter them all" implying a brutal death to everyone involved in drugs and aim to murder 20,000 drug related criminals in one month (Berehulak). Added by Berehulak, the Philippine President endorsed the brutal antidrug campaign where multiple of innocent lives were affected. This events shows the police's use of excessive force that violates the civil rights of ordinary citizens.
The methodologies used by the modern public police officers used force to subjugate criminals, to prevent the escape of criminals and resist arrest (Hutto and Green 90). However, the mistreatment of these police officers to other ordinary citizens rise the questions of civil rights towards the police's actions.
