Hedi Slimane who has a French nationality is known for his prowess in fashion designing and photography. He has held two positions in creative arts as a director in two different companies. The companies are Dior Homme which is a branch of Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. His legacy in fashion designing is unbeatable. Through his creativity in fashion designing, he blazed for four years as his products were a controversial, mostly imitated and best selling. After the four years of popularity, he turned his back on fashion design and took up photography.
At his teens, the journey of Hedi into fashion design began. It was at 16 when he learnt to make his clothes. He furthered his skills and knowledge at Ecole du Louvre by taking art history. He did his apprenticeship in tailoring at men's designer's house. Originally, Hedi had wanted to be a reporter or a journalist. This enticed him to visit Le Monde during his early days into his fashion design career (Riding, 2013). He was granted the directing position in 1996, at Yves Saint Laurent, of ready-to-wear of the men's collection. He was later promoted to be the artistic director. He dropped the position in 2001 and at the same time declined the same offer by Jil Sander and opted for the same position at Christian Dior (Riding, 2013). Along with Richard Avedong, he then led the campaign to the Dior Homme Fragrance creation the same year. It was the first fragrance to be created, and it was later named ‘Higher.'
His fortune continued unveiling, and in 2002, he received the CFDA award. He was the first in men's wear industry to receive this award. This increased his popularity and fame as the time's creative designer. He decided not to renew his contract and went back to his childhood interest, photography in 2007 (Ridding, 2013). Photography was one of his loves since childhood. Later in 2011, he took over his initial position, creative director at Yves Saint Laurent.
