POSITION PAPER. DISARMAMENT AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY COMMITTEE
This paper er is for Model UN. The committee name of us is Disarmament and International Security Committee. We have 3 topics:
1.Long- Range Missiles:Implications of its testing and uses on modern society
2.Ramifications of converntional war on peoples and infrastructure
3.Chemical Weapons-Uses and impacts
We are gonna discuss it from the prespective of Slovenia since I am the delegate of it.

The use of long-range missiles and their connection to nuclear war was greatly used in World War 1 and was the main focus during the cold war. The potential political effect of using long-range missiles is the major reason for its suppressed use.
In an era characterized by the absence of major wars, countries are focusing on building internal peace and achieving economic growth. The United Nations has been effective in controlling the use of long-range missiles and chemical weapons but the regulations about the use of conventional weapons are still not taking effect. This is because conventional warfare is the most common type of armament used in conflicts. The significance of stern action towards conventional warfare is necessitated by the rampant regional conflicts and terrorism, which greatly use such weapons. Conventional warfare has dire effects on civilian population and infrastructure derailing economic progress of developing countries like Slovenia. The mass manufacture for military and civilian makes them common especially in areas of conflict. The table below shows the effects of conventional war on countries that have had conflicts:
Chemical weapons, like nuclear, hold significant implications to the international community. This is due to their mass-murder ability, effects on the environment and terrorism usage. Hamas, ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Syria have used chemical weapons in the 21st century. It has been more rampant in Syria where more than 3,415 deaths have been recorded since the civil war in 2011.
Past International Action
Concerning long-range missiles, the Nuclear Non-ploriferation Treaty and the Anti-ballistic Missile Treaty are the major 20th century actions towards regulating the use of the warfare. Other international actions towards their use are The Hague code of conduct, 2002 and the 2017 treat on the prohibition of nuclear weapons.
