Assignment 3: Critical review（3-4Pages）
1. Insightful critical review of only one or two selected articles in terms of detailed proposal of research project（research background、research hypothesis、research questions、research objectives，etc.）methods, and expected results / benefit, etc.. A rich complement of insightful and innovative perspectives should be done.

Critical Review
Literature exists in different forms depending on the purpose that a given source is designed to meet. While essays take a prose format, which may or may not have subheadings to define its structure, it has an overall structure that identifies it from other forms of literature. Similarly, reports have a definite structure that highlight the purpose of the study involved. Their overall structure include the abstract, introduction, literature review, the theoretical or conceptual framework, the methodology, results or findings, discussion, conclusion, recommendations, and ethical concerns that the researchers utilized in conducting the study. An excellent research report is often preceded by a proposal, which highlights the intention of the study. Similarly, proposals have a specific structure that resembles the report. However, in the case of the proposal, it only reports the specific steps that the study will undertake. An excellent example of a research proposal is by Sharon Lew and Zuraidah Sulaiman, titled “Consumer Purchase Intention toward Products Made in Malaysia vs. Made in China: A Conceptual Paper.” The authors follow the appropriate structure of a research proposal by presenting the abstract, the introduction, the literature review, the research questions, research objectives, theoretical framework, the methodology, and the conclusion.
Introduction/Background
The main purpose of an introduction section in any research is to show the readers why the significance of the research topic that the study seeks to cover. It serves several purposes including presenting the background of the study, introducing the topic and aims of the study, and providing an overview of the research. In the case of a research proposal, in the case of a research proposal, the study has to set the context of the research by mentioning what is known concerning the topic and what needs further exploration. Lew and Sulaiman (2013) present an excellent introduction, in which they begin by indecently reviewing each country under study. In this section, they acknowledge some of the factors that could influence consumers’ decision to purchase from one country rather than the other.
They lay the foundation for the research through a problem statement subsection, in which they compare products made in China and those in Malaysia and note that Malaysians still prefer to purchase goods from China, knowing very well that those products are of lower quality compared to those made in Malaysia. In the purpose of the study section, the authors highlight the aims of the study, which is to investigate the perception and ethnocentrism of Malaysians when purchasing local products. The weakness with this research is on the topic of discussion. The authors have already stated that Malaysians would still purchase Chinese products, which are cheaper compared to the Malaysian ones, despite the quality differences. This already proves that the locals prioritize on prize over quality, which in turn makes the purpose of the study quite confusing.
