* Introduction
Reputation is one of the most important assets for every business company, but it is also very fragile and it can be hard to earn back. In many cases, the reputation of a company does not reflect the real state of affairs and even a small event can easily spiral into a major reputational crisis. In recent years, there has been a lot of crisis about car companies ranging from Volkswagen to Toyota, and the development of the auto industry is facing unprecedented challenges and crises. For example, Tesla could be facing one of its worst public relations crises in China because of a Chinese consumer's protest in 2021. According to Wagner (2021), with the continuous increase of the number of cars and the rapid development of social media, automobile enterprises are facing a more complex market environment and public opinion environment than ever before, which makes the possibility of reputation crisis of automobile enterprises increasing. This paper seeks to explore reputational risk management practices and examine key components that limit the exposure of the company to reputational harm. This paper will extend or limit the scope of the arguments to date about status and reputation by exploring how organizational reputation responds to the revelation of product defects or quality problems in Tesla and Toyota.
