Effect of Long-Term Drinking Alcohol on Brain, Dementia
The research proposal focuses on the effect of long-term alcohol intake on drinkers’ brains. In particular, dementia refers to an illness that affects individuals’ brains and which is characterized by memory disorders, poor problem-solving skills, and irrational decisions. The disease has adverse impacts on how people perform their daily activities. Alcohol affects the brains of a person immediately it enters the bloodstream. People who get used to drinking alcohol every time they encounter challenges have a high likelihood of becoming addicted to it. In this research, the primary focus will be on showing how long-term alcohol drinking might cause dementia.
Ana Sandoiu (2018) suggests that drinking alcohol moderately, lowers the risk of dementia. However, the researcher affirms that taking the drug for an extended period poses dangers of dementia. Currently, about 50 million individuals living with dementia worldwide. Sandoiu’s study involved about 9,087 participants aged from 35-55 years. Respondents were observed for around 23 years. In the end, the researcher found out that 397 of alcohol drinkers developed dementia (Sandoiu, 2018). By drinking alcohol, they feel satisfied and overcome stressful situations they are facing. Overall, human brains get used to alcohol as a stimulant when individuals take it for an extended period.

Researchers found out that heavy alcohol intake of about 60 grams for males per day and 40 grams of alcohol daily for females for an extended period increased the risk of dementia or cognitive impairment (Rehm, Hasan, Black, Shield, & Schwarzinger, 2019). Additionally, Xu et al. (2017) affirm that there is a relationship between dementia and alcohol consumption for an extended period. In five studies analyzed by these researchers in...
