The juvenile justice system, including probation, youth court, community, alternative schooling, detention and youth incarceration, is considered the most valid and authentic way to handle youngsters (both males and females) who are convicted of different criminal offenses. However, this system is currently facing a lot of mental health challenges. It has now been revealed that there is no proper system of mental health assessment. Plus, treatment facilities provided to female juveniles are not as effective and reliable as the medical assistance provided to male juveniles. Thus, mental health has become one of the major challenges for those girls (Lamb & Weinberger, 2017).
According to Eileen P. Ryan, the number of female juveniles suffering from depression, stress, and other mental illnesses was around 1,000 to 2,500 in 1970, in the United States.
