Abstract
Effective inventory tracking system and tracking the inventory helps to control, plan and make informed decisions. The database management is necessary to monitor and track the inventory and is created using Microsoft SQL Server database and combined with simple RFID applications. The system identifies items in the supply chain based on the unique attributes. Inventory data collected can be analyzed in real-time to monitor unusual changes and reduce the risk of inventory errors. The proposed project facilitates inventory tracking, but there is a need to evaluate the return on investments and determine the customization required to meet the users' needs.
Inventory Tracking System
The proposed database management system is an inventory tracking management system. This is a tool that enables businesses to track goods across their supply chain. Notably, an inventory management system optimizes a whole spectrum beginning from order placement with a vendor to its delivery to the customer, clearly mapping the complete journey of the item or product. The system will integrate Microsoft SQL Server as its core database system alongside other auxiliary tools.
Also, physical inspection and control of each item is part of the inventory management, however, an integrated system will factor in major information details, including inputs, outputs, and transfers. In addition, the system is vital in keeping track of what to repair, sell, or lease, all of which are crucial decisions in the planning process. As such, it is critical for the business to have a stable internet connection and watchful employees who will keep things in order and run the business smoothly.
Justification of project
The importance of functioning inventory management cannot be overstated. A good system will enhance every item's high visibility from the shelf and bin in several locations whenever necessary. Usually, a good system prevents stock-outs, enables for enough time to replenish stock, and enables business owners to know the value of their stock at any given moment. For many businesses, the biggest expenditure is physical inventory. Without proper management of such expense, a business is likely to fail.
From this project, there will an understanding of the key elements of a business and how to run stock and operate at minimal expense. Besides, it is important that tracking and tracing products by uniquely identifying them in the supply chain. Sometimes, RFID applications are used in inventory management to identify products across the supply chain, however, there are no current updates on the inventory movement. The new system will integrate Windows 10 operating system while the host machine shall be integrated with other machines to store, manage, and retrieve every information needed about the products. Back up information will be stored on the cloud. In terms of complexity, due to uncertainties in lead time and transportation time, an inventory management system will execute query statements and conform to SQL standards.
