You are the manager of an ancillary service department at a large, 500+ bed hospital. Develop a proposal (750-1,200 words) that is directed toward your staff, in which you address the following:
Inform the staff of the two issues (from the topics provided) your organization is facing.
Describe the impact of these issues on your department.
Describe how improved communication, collaboration, and teamwork can improve conditions in your department.
Identify at least two examples from the required or recommended readings of techniques found to foster inclusion and improve communication and collaboration.
A minimum of three academic references from credible sources are required for this assignment.

The ancillary department is expected to encounter challenges, as a result of changes that the hospital plans to undertake. The role that the department plays is that of giving crucial support to the doctors and nurses that ensure efficient care delivery. Any alteration within the hospital has some impact on the department and the provision of quality care. The memo aims to highlight the hospital’s current problems, its impacts on the ancillary department, and how these issues can be addressed to minimize adverse effects.
One of the current challenges the hospital is facing - is the decline in revenue. The economic challenges brought about by the increasing of technological expenses and have led to the hospital facing some financial problems. Hence, the hospital cannot sustain its responsibilities and at the same time, pays all the employees on time. Also, the hospital’s performance in caregiving has been impacted by the revenue challenges. As a result, the organization has decided to carry out layoffs across all the departments. The change is expected to reduce the hospital’s spending and saving on the labor costs. The alterations would lead to the organization being able to meet its financial requirements and hence improved care services enhancing its stability.
The other issue that the hospital is undergoing is the reorganization of the facility because of the merger with another health institution. The recent financial matters have led to the decision to combine efforts with another hospital to ensure that the care quality is not compromised. The introduction of another group into the system would thus require the restructuring of the whole facility. The reorganization would affect on how things operate in the hospital with significant impacts on both the employees and the patients. The restructuring is meant to accommodate the merger sections that would enhance the hospital’s finances and its efficiency in providing quality care.
The above matters would have a significant effect on the department. The ancillary unit provides critical support to the nurses and physicians and hence, the case of layoffs would have some impact. First, there would be the reallocation of duties to take care of the responsibilities of those whose services would be terminated. For this reason, there would be an expectation of every staff member to perform their best with the additional job roles and sometimes need to work extra hours. Also, the reduction would mean that there would be the demand for more support for the physicians and nurses because of the increase in their responsibilities. According to Walshe and Smith (2011), downsizing leads to increased expectations for the employees that are retained.
Additionally, the reorganization of the facility would result in significant alterations of positions and job responsibilities. Dafny (2009) explains that the inclusion of other physicians, ancillary service givers and nurses would mean that changes in the structure of interaction and reporting would be inevitable. The current relations that exist between department members would be disrupted with the necessity to accommodate the new individuals.
