Every Army organization employs Knowledge Management and relies on information management. This contributes to situational awareness, and shared understanding required for decisions executed through Mission Command. Knowledge Management tools are anything that are used to share and preserve information; however, not all tools are technological. These tools may include information systems and software used to put knowledge products and services into organized frameworks.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. You are required to write an Information Paper containing the findings of your survey and interviews.
2. Requirements for the Information Paper:
- Your paper will be a minimum of 2 pages in length, but no more than 4 pages. It will be double-spaced with one inch margins.
- Use attached writing style guide to provide formatting instructions IAW the ISAP

- State what KM components are affected in your organization
- State how KM supports Mission Command from the perspective of your organization

Army Knowledge Management
Knowledge management has become a critical part of the army command mission. The technique promotes a more integrated method of identifying, collecting, evaluating, and the transfer of information to enhance mission efficiency. The introduction of this concept has led to the technology refinement concerning both software and hardware to improve knowledge management. From the interviews and survey, the organization has incorporated some new communication systems and information technology that has helped advance knowledge management.
One of the technologies that have been introduced is the Common Operating Picture (COP) that enables accurate and timely operations assessment. As a result, there is the precise understanding of the mission’s situations at every instant enhancing decision. However, from the interviews, there is a challenge in the sorting, selection, and analysis process because the data is usually vast. In this case, there is the need to include a system that gives contextual information enabling the evaluation of mission-specific issues. The interlinking with collaboration would assure real-time handling of mission issues.
Another technological advancement that has been implemented is the intelligence surveillance system. According to the interviewees, the technique has enhanced how the various teams in a mission convey and share information. Through this, it has become easier for commanders to issue directives to the staff that collects data that is then evaluated and analyzed. From this, intelligence is developed that is finally disseminated to the individuals that require to realizing a successful mission.
