The local utility seems amenable to this conversion taking place within their service territory. In addition, the excess generation should have the option/ability to sell power back to the grid when connected. Therefore, you are requested to perform a preliminary assessment or feasibility assessment on the formation of this community grid or microgrid. Microgrids are essentially self-sustaining, small electric grids with their own generation resources and internal loads that may or may not be connected to the larger electric utility “microgrid”.

Description of Microgrid Capabilities

The village of Attica in New York 2,547 near the town of Attica and the electricity is served by the National Grid under the authority of New York. There will be a screening of the capabilities a proposed microgrid, which will meet the needs and wants of the residents and other stakeholders. When the right technologies are utilized and research on the appropriateness of the infrastructure and proposed technology will provide insights on how the microgrid will affect the electrical distribution system [1]. The Police Department uses the Wyoming Correctional Facility, while the Attica Correctional Facility is located near southern Attica. The proposed grid will improve operational efficiency and will use reliable energy, mostly solar and to a less extent gas, while there have been suggestions to use lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and solar panels to store the sore and battery energy, which will reduce blackout and voltage problems.

Preferable Microgrid Capabilities

There is a need for a microgrid to ensure that there is no disruption of electricity in the critical facilities in the village and this will support the full operation of these facilities [2]. Additionally, in the case of grid emergencies, the grid will be operational regardless of whether it is the natural events or other emergencies, the commercial, industrial and residential customers will also have power. The microgrid then will have smart meters, microgrid logic controllers, distribution automation and energy storage to improve the efficiency of the storage and distribution of power.
