In the previous module page, we read about how cultural mythologies pushed in popular culture are shaj our views and our behaviors. For this activity, we will examine the current climate and see if mythologies changing as the culture evolves into civil unrest and protest.
Instructions:

2. Briefly summarize the content and then analyze ONE of the following: (for an example of an anah see module page 3.4 Recognizing Social Behavior in Popular Culture)

About the texts:
Olivia Goldhill explores how people's reality is shaped differently depending on how they get their news. In her article, she contrasts the way television and print media appeal to audiences, explaining why Trump is successful as a television president while he doesn't come across so well in print media.
S. Craig Watkins chronicles the rise of BlackTwitter and how hand-held devices have shaped social media use and activism.
Lilliana Mason offers an explanation on why people form similar ideologies. This short text explains how group identity becomes "sorted," which is when three identities go together: partisan, or political identity, religious identity, and racial identity. As they come together, members of one identity group will most likely belong to the other identity group and thus become sorted (or grouped). It's important that you understand what she means by sorted identities, which are explained in paragraphs 2 and 3.
Barbara Ehrenreich. the longest of the four texts, points out an American ideology of being bright-sided, or positive thinking. You will notice that she begins with why being positive has its benefits. After that, she chronicles its history and then offers evidence that we are not as happy as we claim. As she connects positive thinking to capitalism, she describes how being bright-sided has become a business with life coaches and self-help seminars. Can we say. Tony Robbins, anyone? As she concludes this text, she calls being bright-sided a "delusion" to the troubles we encounter.
