My chosen key theme is globalization, and the issue for analysis is immigration. The Global Coalition on Migration is the selected organization. Immigration entails permanent or partial shifting of residence to another country by individuals. Immigration has, for decades, led to social, economic, and cultural benefits to the new states. Its experience is varied from countries but associated with the development of modern states with multicultural compositions. This is what comprises globalization. Globalization has resulted in different landscapes in both political and economic powers, which have brought marginalized actors to the forefront in terms of global economies (Price 31). This increases due to industrialization in sectors like agriculture and automobile industries. Immigration is the impulse for globalization. According to statistics, about 175 million transnational citizens are living beyond their home countries (Suarez-Orozco 51).
In stimulating immigration, globalization has played a significant role. For instance, economic growth in one country entices movement into that nation. In a place where there is an enormous flow of capital, immigrants follow the trend. Another factor that stimulates immigration is the flow of information and new technologies in the telecommunication industry. These aspects tend to generate new tastes and life choices for people around the world. The immigrants have a perception that they will experience better lives in other countries, thus the movements. In a multicultural society like the United States, practical tools and rapid growth of technologies enhance communication and learning. Besides, globalized economies improve living for employees. This acts as a major attraction to people who desire to work in different countries. Consequently, rapidly growing economies have appetites for foreign workers (Suarez-Orozco 52).
Globalization has eased transportation. With adequate infrastructure like airlines, countries have become an easy-reach that has facilitated migration. Moreover, transportation becomes cheaper with enhanced means of transport. Most people can now afford air tickets from a country like the Philippines to Italy. Thus, it has become a norm for people to migrate and work in other countries. A research found out that 1.5 billion air tickets were sold in 2000 (Suarez-Orozco). In addition, globalization has achieved uneven outcomes. It coordinates the economies, markets, cultural models, and social activities that have shaped the migratory flows. Some immigrants engage in back and forth movements. They will move for a specific period then go back to their home countries, hence facilitating globalization. For instance, by taking technologies from other countries to their own, they improved agricultural activities, which led to better production.
A Hong Kong magazine Diwaliwan published that Filipina women account for globalization. With their migration to over 130 countries, they represent the most significant number of female immigrants and service providers in Singapore, Bahrain, London, and other major cities (Salazar-Parrenas 184).
