In the U.S, minority groups are classified in five major categories namely the whites, blacks or African-Americans, American-Indians or Alaska Natives, Asians, and Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islander. African-American is the largest minority group in the U.S. The population of the African-Americans is estimated at 45 million, making up 15.2 percent of the total population of the country. The African-Americans originally came from Africa. It is a group perceived to experience narrow opportunities of success, education, and wealth. Any minority group is differentiated based on their physical or cultural characteristics singled out from others in the society. The term minority connotes discrimination, which elucidates that the Africa-Americans, just like any other minority group, is historically known to have experience as unequal treatment as compared to majority groups in the country.
