Company Research 12/8: Interpersonal Communication

Research Paper Instructions:

Imagine that you have been hired by a company or organization to offer training in Interpersonal Communication to its employees. Based on the material covered in this course, decide what you consider to be the two most important interpersonal skills from which employees would benefit. Explain why you chose the company and skills you did and provide me with any and all information I would need to understand the inner workings of this company (i.e. the number of people employeed, their ages, cultural background, education level, history of the company, etc.). Then design a pair of activities (one for each skill) that you believe would help identify the problem you have chosen or improve on it. The two activities need not be related to each other.
Each activity should have a title, purpose(s) and directions. Remember, you will not be here to talk me through the assignment so I will need to understand the process and goals of your assignment through imagination alone. Be as clear and specific as possible. Remember, if I can't understand and/or follow your paper, I can't give you credit for the assignment.
Also, please note, there is no set word count for the paper. The length will depend on the level of detail you give in your company history as well as the complexity of your activities and exercises. However, all necessary citations should be included.

The goal of communication is very simple, writing or speaking clearly in a way that the message that an individual intends to send is the same that is received by the receivers. Therefore, the sender must be aware of the way he or she is delivering it and the type of language that is being used. Therefore in terms of one’s interpersonal communication skills, one should pay as much attention to the message he is sending as the one he is receiving.
In work places, people work in a group of people whom they have never met before and tend to have less in common. This group is tasked with organizing and producing certain services that some of the team members have more knowledge about than others. After sometime the members start to know more about each other and others settle into certain roles based on their skills. In this process, conflicts may arise between members who tend to have differing priorities and perceptions. Without proper interpersonal communication skills, the conflicts may escalate and have an impact on the daily operations of the organization. The colleagues may also develop interpersonal conflicts that may affect their personal and working relationships.
Del Taco, Inc. is a fast food chain restaurant that recently hired a new assistant manager Mr. Billy Bologne who has turned to be a nightmare supervisor to his colleagues. Mr. Bologne is said to have no social, or interpersonal communication skills.
DEL TACO’S HISTORY
Del Taco, Inc. is the second largest Mexican fast food chain restaurant in the USA. It was founded in 1964 by Ed Hackbarth after partnering with David Jameson. Before the partnership, in 1961 Ed Hackbarth opened his own fast food place. The partnership gave birth to Del Taco Inc. In 1966, Hackabarth and Jameson entered into another partnership with Naugle to form Red-E-Food Systems, Inc. The partnership between the three franchised Casa Del Taco brand that were opened in the southern California. The three partners put their efforts to ensure that their adventure succeeded. In 1972, they opened their largest store in Newport Beach, California. The store is still operational up to date (FundingUniverse).
In 1973, they dropped “Casa” and “Red-E-Food Systems” to form Del Taco, Inc. The company continued to enjoy great developments over the years but in 1976, Hackbarth and Jameson who were remaining as the stakeholders of the company sold it to a group of investors. At the beginning of 1970s, Naugles left the company to start his own outlets. However, most of Naugles’ restaurants were later converted to Del Taco Inc. in the late 80s. Though Hackabarth and Jameson sold the company, they retained the rights of developing their own Del Taco stores. In 2001, Hackabarth opened his own Del Taco store and continued to operate it on his own (FundingUniverse).
The company went through several changes including the sale of “limited partnerships” and the rights of developing new Del Tacos in the United States except in California where it was already established. This was done by its new owners. In 1994, the company signed a deal to open 15 new stores and by fall in 1995, it closed seve...
