Globalization and Fast fashion
Globalization refers to the global integration of world economies into a single accepted market without borders. Therefore, globalization not only enables the transfer of goods and services across different parts of the world, but also ideals on social, cultural and political aspects (Perez). Fast fashion can be described as by product of globalization with different unique styles adorned by celebrities or models on a runway adapted by retailers and introduced to markets at cheaper and large quantities. The increased popularity of such fashion enables people across the world to follow suit and copy such trends but in turn affects other locally developed brands through undercutting. Consequently, the impact of globalization on both people and culture is significant with both negative and positive effects across the world.
Firstly, globalization has enabled the transfer of technology on a massive scale with more countries interconnected through the use of the internet. This has further enabled information to be transferred across the world in a matter of seconds. For instance, social media enables its users to interact all over the world on different matters affecting them. The Black Lives Matter brigade provides a perfect example of the impact of globalization whereby a spark in the United states brought about worldwide protests to fight for justice (Kirby). Such levels of integration show the impact of globalization on culture with more people working together to support and fight for the rights of marginalized communities not only in the united states but in other parts around the globe.
Additionally, globalization has enabled education to reach even the remote areas in parts of the world that it was not present before. This creates opportunities for global employment opportunities for such individuals hence enabling them to improve the standards of living of their communities (Perez).
