Abstract
Franklin Delano Roosevelt also was known as KDR was born on January 30 in 1882 in Hyde Park, New York in the United States. Franklin D. Roosevelt was an American statesman and also a political leader who led the U.S. through the Great Depression and also in the World War II. However, he was the 32nd president of America who highly expanded the federal government powers through a number of programs and reforms referred to as the New Deal. He was married to Eleanor Roosevelt and they had six children. However, Franklin D. Roosevelt served as the American president from 1933 to 1945 when he passed away.
Introduction
Franklin D. Roosevelt was a dominant leader of the Democrat party. In the 20th century, he won his four-term in presidential elections and became a prominent figure in the world events (DI 134). He assisted in readjusting the American politics and started the Fifth Party System and also demarcated the American liberalism. Franklin had served as an Assistant Secretary of the Navy during the era of President Woodrow Wilson. However, in 1920, he was James M. Cox's running mate of the Democratic Party. In 1928, Franklin won an electoral seat and became the Governor of New York until 1933 when he started his Presidential term. However, Franklin D. was the first president to serve for two consecutive terms. During his leadership, Franklin D. Roosevelt brought social, economic and political changes in the United States (Winkler 327). He also promoted agendas to succumb economic crisis during his time.Accordingly, the paper will shed light on how Franklin D. Roosevelt influenced the United States during his leadership. This includes social, economic and political influences. Also, the paper will focus on the role of the government action on the social and economic context during Franklin D. Roosevelt period.
Franklin D. Roosevelt Economic Influence
Franklin won the people's votes by promising them to take all remedies possible to bring to an end The Great Depression. The Great Depression was an international economic crisis that lasted for nearly 10 years, this was 1929- 1939 and was the worst economic crisis in the history (Winkler 247). During this period, stocks had lost value and investors had switched to gold because the U.S. was still on the gold standard. However, this was followed by banks' decline and the rate of unemployment rose. Following this crisis, Franklin D. Roosevelt called the Americans to support the government spending. Therefore, he closed the banks in the United States to end the reduction of American gold deposit caused by the foreign investors (Miske 397). After 10 days, banks were reopened and citizens were ordered to give out their gold in exchange for dollars. Franklin’s government took off the United States from the gold standard, which enhanced the government to print more money to boost the economic growth. However, during the 100 days of his leadership, he signed the New Deal remedy that developed 42 agencies that include the Securities and Exchange Commission, Social Security and also Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (Daynes 567).
