(Student’s name) (Professor’s name) Social Sciences 09 May 2018 Civil Liberty, Rights, and Politics The US constitution has 10 amendments that comprise the Bill of Rights in order to protect the rights of their people and maintain their freedom as well. This kid of protection is not just limited to the citizens and adults because in a lot of circumstances, the constitution only pertains to the people which is meant for everyone. It now includes children, tourists, immigrants, and even the undocumented ones have the same freedom when they are in the USA. This means that anyone who sets foot in the USA do not need to sacrifice their liberties. This is why it is important to know the civil liberty, rights, and what is necessary to be learned about the US politics that may affect someone’s freedom and liberties. The Freedom of Speech is a civil liberty in the USA that is part of the 1st amendment. It gives people the right not to speak which means they can choose not to salute the flag and the students can wear black armbands if they want to protest a war in school. People can use some offensive words to deliver political messages and make a point. They have the freedom to contribute money to a political campaign they believe in and advertisements to promote commercial products, as well as professional services. In addition, they can engage in a symbolic speech if they want to or even burn the flag as a sign of protest. \ The freedom of speech is important because it is every individual’s right to be able to speak their mind without hesitations or fears is important for any human being’s growth. No one is going to be happy if they cannot voice out their opinions out of fear. It is a social contract that paves a way for people to live with each other peacefully even if they have radical opinions about a certain issue or topic. Moreover, it is needed for self-government because the citizens who belong to a free country are given the privilege to hear about every side of public inquiries. It is saying that a person’s choice is not really free if there is someone who puts a limit to the facts and opinions that a person hears. Freedom of speech gives some power to those who do not have it because in any situation, those who have resources and power can get their views out. The poor, marginalized, reformers, and dissidents are those who need free speech the most, and this is absolutely true. It is not selfish and everyone can have free speech. The very 1st legislation of civil rights was in 1957 when the Congress passed the civil rights act. At the same time enforcing the right to vote of African-Americans which was the 15th amendment of the US constitution. However, the act had a lot of loopholes. The struggle for social justice mainly took place during the 1950s to 1960s when the civil rights movement took place. It was for the blacks to finally be given equal rights under the US law. It led to the civil war which eventually eradicated slavery, but it failed to end discrimination against the blacks because they still went through racism. When the middle of the 20th century ended, African-Americans had a lot of violence and prejudice done to them. They, and a lot of whites, started a fight for equality which lasted for 20 years....
