Emotion support animals play a substantial role in reducing the levels of stress in the human body by increasing the levels of oxytocin. This is made possible by the fact that many people find pets to be adorable animals, and as a result, such feeling brings calmness to a person. When an individual spends time with such animals, they can divert their attention towards the animal (Krause-Parello, Cheryl, Sarah, and Eleni 49). Diverted attention is an indication that they would not have time to think about the issues that are stressing them out. As well, taking pets out for a walk is another way that they reduce stress because the individual can focus on the well-being of the pet. The use of emotion support animals is one of the upcoming therapies administers towards the reduction of stress in human beings (Martin, Niels, et al. 980). However, this is only successful in the case of individuals that love pets. A person can also be taught on how to associate with the pets for the sake of managing a certain mental condition.
In addition, emotion support animals help in the management of anxiety disorders. Individuals with a registered emotional support animal claim that the difference between a manageable and an unmanageable anxiety disorder is keeping a pet. The animals are able to sense the mood that their owner is in and, in turn, respond accordingly. Most pets can detect a person's mood without requiring much training (Fine, Aubrey, and Alan 8). The pets act as a companion to the owner hence helping them to overcome the difficult emotions. Unlike working service animals, emotional support does not require a lot of training, yet it is able to offer its support during anxiety situations. Owning a pet helps an individual to deal with daily issues.
