Why Abortion is Bad
Each year, thousands of abortions are carried out around the world. While the legality of the processes is debated, some immutable elements come with each abortion. It is hard to imagine that behind every abortion, a life is terminated. Many people argue that an unborn child is not a human, and this assertion has been compounded by the ‘rights’ claimed by mothers of autonomy over their bodies. However, the cruelty, short- and long-term implications of abortion show that it is bad for the victim (unborn child), the mother, and society. Pegging the reasons for procuring an abortion on the rights of the mother and planned parenthood fails to capture all the elements of why abortion is bad. Therefore, abortion is wrong, and even the reasons fronted by abortionists fall short of proving why it should be allowed.
First, pro-abortionists claim that the unborn child is not a sentient being with equal rights to a born person because they lack autonomy. While this sounds reasonable, it is dehumanizing fetuses for the convenience of the mother or any other interested parties. Lacking full autonomy or being ‘not fully developed’ is not the definition of life, but those elements mark the presence of life. An unborn child is a new life with unique genetic material different from anyone else in the world, whether alive or dead. For this reason, that life should be protected and nurtured to enter the world and thereafter because it is as important and unique as anyone else alive. Thus, even unwanted children should be allowed to live. There are many people whose existence was not planned, and they were born, lived, and had a net positive impact in the world.
Secondly, some people claim they only want to have planned parenthood. They should also understand that planned parenthood is not synonymous with abortion. If a woman gets ‘accidentally pregnant, there are other options that do not involve killing the unborn child. They can give up the child for adoption. Wade.’ There are people and families who can take care of those children. Killing them is denying them the chance to adopt newborns and integrate them into their lives. The Job’s family adopted Steve Jobs as a newborn, and the rest was history. The selfish reasons for abortion affect other people and the community.
Apart from the arguments posted by the pro-abortionists, abortion is bad for several other reasons. First, it is terminating a life which is unconstitutional and a violation of a very basic human right. The key reason any human life is protected under the law is that the line dividing the start of life is very blurry. And secondly because of the sanctity of human life. A...
