This paper is going to provide an in-depth analysis of the Islamic religious subculture. It’s going to shade some light on its place in the American society, the historical and social factors that have shaped its experience, demographic information pertaining its distribution, its contribution to the culturally pluralistic society and many more. It’s without a doubt that Islamic religion has been in existence for many centuries and just like any other religion its influence on the day-to-day activities either directly or indirectly is quite profound. This particular group (Islam) has aroused so much interest in the past decades due to cases of religious extremism that have had fatal consequences not only in America ( e.g. 9/11 incident) but also in other parts of the world. The incorporation of Islam into the American society dates back centuries ago. On the account of American history, 10 to 15 percent of the African slaves that were shipped to America were said to be Muslims. However, once they were in America, it was really difficult for them to keep on practicing their religion and even went further to be forced into Christianity. However, there was a group of African-Americans on the coast of Georgia that managed to stand firm with their Islamic faith until the onset of the 20th century.
Between the years of 1878 and 1924, there was a large number of Muslims from Lebanon and Syria that made their way into America as immigrants in search of greater economic opportunities. Most of them settled in Iowa, Dakotas, Michigan and Ohio. One of the well-recognized employers of Muslims and blacks was the Ford Company. It took advantage of them and had them work in very hot and hostile conditions of the factory.
