Example: Jason Reynolds examines the friendship between Quinn and Guzzo in detail to demonstrate how two contrasting views can cause conflict between even the best of friends.
It is evident that Quinn and Guzzo began to struggle with their friendship when Quinn wears the shirt to school. Reynolds demonstrates their conflict by writing, “ At the sight of the shirt, Guzzo spat on me and slammed the door behind him as he stormed back into the gym” (261). Reynolds uses this quote to demonstrate the disgust that Guzzo had for Quinn and his new found views. Guzzo is so disgusted by the fact that Quinn has taken Rashad’s side, that he spits on him which is considered, by many, to be the most disrespectful thing one can do.
