* Introduction
Born on 3rd March 1847 in Edinburg, Alexander Bell stayed in Scotland where he spent most of his childhood years (Osborne, 1). He was tutored by the father before he joined the Royal High School in Edinburgh, Scotland for four semesters studying science. He taught music and speech at the Weston House Academy, Scotland. After studying Later Greek and Latin, he joined the University of Edinburg as his family moved to Ontario, Canada, and Boston. Besides studying he taught, and invented the telephone.

II. Main idea #1
De-husking machine invention that changed how to husk in mills.

* He worked in a neighbor’s mill and simplified de-husking. He invented the simple de-husking machine (Hochfelder, 3) that solved the tedious problem in de-husking.

* On his teaching profession, Bell started to research on means to transfer telegraph messages instantaneously and invented the harmonic telegraphs (Gorman and Carlson 144). In 1876, Bell invented the telephone, which he termed as “an electrical speech the machine’’ (Gorman and Carlson 144).

Setting up the Volta Laboratory for Research.

Bell devoted his time to improving phonograph, the machine that had been invented by Edison in 1877 (Hochfelder, 2).
* He produced the Graphophone, a commercial phonograph device that had a detachable cardboard cylinder painted with mineral wax. They later formed the Volta Graphophone Company and sold it to America Graphophone Company (Osborne, 3). Bell used the revenue from the sale to enlarge the Volt Laboratory.
