In this regard, cell phones have been modified to perform almost every operation necessary for individuals at any time or place. Therefore, cell Phones are no longer luxurious goods but necessities. Hence, human addiction to cell phones can be explained based on their ability to impact their social needs, which is a necessity. However, as capabilities of cell phones continue to grow, so do its impact on our social lives. In extreme cases, people have been unable to communicate face-to-face due to cell phone addiction and social anxiety. Consequently, this paper seeks to explain how cell phones have socially changed humans. One change that cell phones have revolutionized is the definition and process of communication. Before the modern era, people used traditional means to transmit information and data. However, a major disadvantage with traditional means was how ineffective and slow they were. Consequently, it was impossible for an individual to send messages urgently. This necessitated the invention of something that was fast and reliable. Consequently, it gave rise to the innovation of cell phones. It is this invention of cell phones that changed social communication since individuals could freely communicate as distance became irrelevant. (Oduor, p 12). Due to their uniformity, human beings underwent a major social change as cell phones were globally accepted as the general mode of communication. A combination of cell phones and the internet has improved communication processes beyond the oral means. From a business perspective, individuals can engage in businesses transactions anywhere through cell phones. Consequently, E-banking and money transfer services have become so ease as people just click on “apps” stored in their cellphones, which solves their money issues without necessarily going to the banks. Cellphon0e’s impact has also changed our education system as students and any other person can study or reading even if they do not have reading materials with the help of e-books that can be accessed through our cellphones. Other than just communication, another major aspect of cellphones is social networking. This has been very useful to people who find it difficult to create bonds. It is important to note that there are various kinds of individuals in our universe including the shy and anti-social. However, cell phones are built with various features that help people to interact with other people on the Internet, which boost morale, thus improving their social life. As a result, Campbell (p 20) argues that majority of people in the world cannot claim they are out of the society as cellphone connects them to the community. Since cellphones offer everyone an opportunity to communicate using any means they deem appropriate, it promotes happiness within the community.
