NFL Players Are Paid Too Much Money
Introduction
Sports have been around for quite a long time, much like the human civilization with traces in Greece and Egypt. Sports have been part of the social cloth, for as long as man has been in existence. Over the years, the humans have tried to understand the abilities of their bodies in reference to being a useful element and for entertainment (Mayfat). Sports such as wrestling, swimming and sprinting have been around for ages as a form of entertaining the masses and later developed as a competition. With reference to the level of the competition and the level of competitiveness of the sports in question, sportsmen and women have turned into icons around the globe. Special genetic makeup in specialized research has received millions of dollars to enhance the sports and the athletes (Jones). Multibillion corporation and sports houses have come up as they try to tap into the lucrative business of sports. With the development of the sports industry, athletes are now among the most highly paid personalities across the globe. The question that has been around for ages and may still reign for ages to come is whether, the professional athletes are paid too much money (Ozanian). According to the Forbes magazine, when salaries alone are considered, out of the top 100 most highly paid athletes in the world, the NFL has a minimum of 30 in the group ("How The Highest Paid Players On Canada's NHL Teams Stack Up"). This is a clear indication of the amount of money in the NFL that goes into keeping the fans entertained.
Thesis statement: The NFL players are paid too much money, which does not justify the amount of work they do compare to other professionals in any state.
Justification Argument
Majority of the support for the amount of money that most of the NFL players take home at the end of the year is related to the aspects of entertainment and risk. Most of the people that do not agree with the fact that the players are paid too much money feel that, these players put in a lot of work and they deserve the compensatory packs (Jones). In addition, some of the people that support the idea of giving the NFL players a lot of money cite the risks element that the players have to deal with on a daily basis. Ideally, these players put their lives in danger by straining their body and mind to entertain the fans. Some of the players that have been unfortunate to sustain injuries, have been scarred their entire lives (Ozanian).
The average team in the league is worth close to $1.4 billion dollars, which is the basis of the other argument about the justifiable payments. Ideally, this is a league that makes more than $45 billion dollars a year (Jones). It is therefore argued to be commensurate that the players are paid as hefty, given that the teams are making large sums of money ("Nfl inside Dish").
Unjustified Payments
Ironically, most of the media reports show players complaining that the amount paid to them is not even enough and they would want to be given better pay (Morrison). What is most striking is the fact that even those players that sit it out on the bench for an entire season due to injuries or other logistic issues still make a lot mo...
