Natural resources play a very important role in enhancing sustainability of human beings and other forms of bio-diversity. However, for this to be achieved, it is imperative that human beings learn to be responsible and take care of the environment that surrounds them. However, over the years, this has not been the case, the human beings continually encroach the environment to meet their rapidly growing needs (Lee, p. 56). One of the ways in which human population has encroached on the environment is through cutting down trees. Perhaps due to lack of knowledge on the impact of cutting down trees, the vice has been propagated leading to almost irreversible damages. This discussion focuses on the effects of cutting down trees and the long-term adverse impacts on the environment.
Forests which are made of many trees planted together [provide habitats to thousands if not millions of wild animals. Ideally wild animals and humans beings cannot co-exist. The two must have two separate habitats. However, cutting trees will essentially mean destruction of forests. By extension, it means that all the animals that depend on the forest as their habitat are left to wander. Cutting down trees has adverse effects on the wild animals as their cycle is interrupted. It is this interruption that leads to human-wild conflict as the animals such for alternative habitat.
Trees have a direct effect on the weather and climate patterns. Often areas that are well forested enjoy good weather and the climate patterns are consistent and almost predictable (Pillsbury, p. 19). This is not so for areas which have been subjected to deforestation. Such areas experience inconsistent patters of climate and the weather conditions tend to be harsh from time to time.
Environmentalists also argue that due to the shade provided by trees, the soil in a forest area tends to be most. It ensures that the area remains green and does not dry up despite hot weather conditions (Pico loti, p. 35). However, when trees are cut down, the effect is that the soil gets exposed and the moisture begins to operate. With the passage of time, the water in the soil dries up leading to proper performance of the tress and other crops planted nearby.
