Social, Political, and Religious Dimensions of Artwork
Artworks are created for different reasons. One of such reasons is to preserve the history of the time when they were created; such history is preserved in different aspects. The three most common dimensions include social, political, and religious aspects. Artists in different eras of artwork used different skills and approaches in communicating such themes and aspects to the society, with some using their artwork in creating awareness. Examples of such artworks which have been used to show the social, political, and religious practices of the time they were created include Edvard Munch’s The Scream, Andre Derain Portrait of Henri Matisse, and Green Stripe by Henry Matisse.

Analysis
Political Analysis
In Edvard Munch’s The Scream, the setting of the artwork also shows an individual in a state of panic and behind her there are two men. During this time, the word was going through a rapid moment of industrialization and urbanization. As a result, the rate of crime had also risen during the time (Deborah et al. 94). Citizens also accused their governments of lack of enough security. In this artwork, Munch intends the two men behind the panicked woman to be interpreted as an illustration of the rising crime rate due to lack of effective political leadership.
His work was aimed at alerting the political class of the state of security in the streets.
On the other hand, in Andre Derain Portrait of Henri Matisse, Matisse has snorkel and goggles on. This is one of the peculiar features of the particular provisions of the artist. The goggles cement the position of the artist as a master among his younger colleagues in Fauvism. He is believed to be the creator of fauvism in art. Further, Matisse has occupied all the available space on the portrait and the head is cut off partially. This shows that the scale of the figure is not in the right dimensions.
Religious Analysis
Edvard Munch’s The Scream uses a rather natural background that surrounds the individuals on his piece. As such, it shows his belief in nature and the existence of a superior being. Even though Munch does not insist on this, the manner in which he has done his artwork to glorify the beauty of nature speaks volumes about his religious position (Deborah et al. 97).
