To a large extent, the story of Ona Judge colors my opinion concerning George Washington. The extensive story shapes my opinion concerning Washington in both positive and negative light. The text provides numerous examples to support these opinions. Therefore, a number of examples will be provided from the text to support an assertion or opinion.
The first opinion concerning George Washington derived from the text is that he was a kind person. Although he insisted on having some slaves working under him, he treated them better than slaves were in those days. As witnessed in the text, Washington bought quality clothes for Ona Judge such that she had many outfits. In the advertisement of the lost slave, it is recorded that Ona Judge had numerous pairs of quality clothes. While it is quite natural that a person working for the president would receive such favors, it was not natural enough for slaves at that time. Slaves were being treated as second-class citizens and were humiliated on every possible occasion. In addition to quality clothing, the president also paid some fees for Ona Judge so that she could watch some films. Based on these observations, it is true to conclude that George Washington was a kind person.
