History of Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler, born on 20 April 1889 by Klara, the wife of Alois Hitler, who lived in the small Austrian town of Braunau at the border between Austria and Germany. The Hitler family lived a comfortable, middle-class life. Adolf's father was a respected Austrian customs official, and his mother was a simple housemaid. While in primary school, Hitler showed intellectual potential, and this made him popular among his fellow pupils as well as being admired for the leadership qualities he possessed. Hitler dropped out of secondary school at the age of 16 after registering a fail in his exams (Giblin and James; ch2, pg. 4).
Hitler’s mother was suffering from cancer. It was to be sad Christmas for Hitler that year of 1907. Hitler never left his mother's side since his homecoming as he watched the suffering her mother was going through. Hitler was in charge of the house and shared the housework with little sister Paula together with his aunt Johanna. Kubizek was around to comfort Hitler, after his friend left him he took out his sketch pad and began to draw the likeness of his dear mother's face but it was hard for him to remember the appearance as he had trouble recording the tortured features. After the death of his father, Hitler left Linz ad made his way back to Vienna in mid-February 1908 in order to pursue a career in art. His application for both Vienna Academy of Art and school of Architecture were rejected since he had no school living certificate. (Jones, pg. 21-22)
The money inherited by Hitler after the death of his father was now over. He had no means of supporting himself, and this made him live in a doss house tramps. He spent much time painting hoping to make a living out of the paints. It was at this age of his life that he developed hatred for the Jews. He was convinced that a Jews professor rejected his artwork and that it was a Jews doctor who had been responsible for the death of his mother. By 1910, he was fully convinced of the hatred towards the Jews as his mind had become set. In 1914, he attempted to escape his misery; he made an attempt to join Austrian army, but he failed in the medical tests. The medical report stated that his body was too weak to carry weapons. Hitler then crossed the border to Germany after World War One had been declared. Hitler volunteered for the Germany army since the Germany had no interest in checking for the medical history of its soldiers. He was enlisted in a Bavarian regiment. Hitler's bravery was recognized and was awarded a medal. In October 1918, Hitler was admitted to the hospital after being caught in a gas attack. While recovering in hospital, an agreement was signed to end the war. Hitler in his mind believed that the army was never defeated but stabbed in the back by politicians who had signed the Armistice (Chandler and Malcolm, ch4. pg.76).
In 1919, Hitler joined the Germany Workers party (NSDAP) and decided to devote all of his energy to the party. He made an immediate impact to the party and many people joined the Nazis. The ...
