Forever 21 opened its first store in 1984, which was a 900 square foot shop located in downtown Los Angeles. Originally, the store was called Fashion 21 and managed to rapidly expand by opening up a new store after every six months. Eventually, the brand changed its name to the famously known Forever 21. Over the past 30 years, the company has continued to expand its operations by opening up close to 600 stores by 2017 (Forever 21). Despite being family owned, the company has grown to be the fifth largest specialty retailer in America.
