Flooring Materials and Finishes in an Architectural Office Name: Course: Date: Flooring Materials and Finishes in an Architectural Office There are many aspects of flooring materials and finishes used in offices. These include durability of the materials, comfort while walking, cost of materials, appeal effect on the visitors among others. Architectural offices usually consider these aspects when designing by selecting the best materials for floor finishes. The nature of the floor surface has significant effects on the visitors and is useful in creating the standards of the occupants. In most offices, tiles are the preferred to other materials due to various reasons (Boyce Business Interiors, 2013). The objective of this writing is to explore these aspects and how they influence decisions on the type of tiles to use. According to Brunskill (2007), floor tiles are usually made of ceramic or stone but improvements in technology have made it possible to make rubber, wood and even glass tiles. For some people, office designing is influenced by contemporary issues, that is, the trends that are most appealing to people at that particular time. According to Mr. Koh, fancy designs are usually preferred in areas where first impression about the organization matters most. These are areas such as receptions and meeting rooms. Mr. Koh says that though many aspects are considered, the materials used should generally make walking comfortable and absorb sound (Brunskill 2007). A look around his office , which was one of those visited, shows that though the tiles used are made from some recycling materials, they are comfortable to walk on and are not noisy.
