Shift from IS0 9001:2008 to 9001:2015
ISO 9000 of quality management system was developed to ensure that organizations meet the customer and other stakeholders need. This is while the same time they meet statutory and regulatory requirements of the related product. To help meet third party certification, there was formation of ISO 9001 which is an independent confirmation for all other organisations. Basically both the old and the new standards cover the same topics although there are some crucial difference. The current standard has been through some revisions to change the structure, to achieve a high level structure to enable a uniform and identical structure for all management systems. Topic such as risk management, change management and knowledge management are the basic areas of revision.
The new ISO 9001:2015 would have seven main sections as opposed to the ISO 9001:2008 which has 5 sections. The new edition would use the new Annex SL template which would share same basic requirements according to the management system standards giving it the same look and feel. On the context of the organization, the ISO 9001:2015; the new standard expects one to understand the organization context before its establishment. This will involve both the internal and external issues which are relevant to the organisation purpose and strategic direction (Murphy, & Yates, 2009). The organization culture, values and its performance should be understood before the quality management standards.
To eliminate the problem of differentiating document and records, the new standards refers to both as documented information. Documented information would be used to mean any information that is controlled and maintained in an organization and can be retrieved to be used latter.
