Native American religions can be termed as the spiritual practices of Native Americans in North America. The religions are diversified with in all manners, some being unique to individual Native American tribes, while others are practiced by a wide range of tribes. The history of American religion is greatly dominated by the presence of Christianity which was introduced to America (the new world) by European settlers. The discovery of America by Columbus in the year 1492 was the marking point over which white settlers started the historical invasion of America. The entire continent of North America was invaded by white settlers. Christianity came up in many forms of denominations and was the common religion under which European in the new world gathered. As more European s continued to invade America, the newly discovered land, the indigenous races that populated North America were faced with the threat of being faced out. Within the first four hundred of invasion, the white settlers had managed to introduce new cultures and beliefs into the continent. The native were robbed out of their cultures and were adopting new cultures, beliefs, and religious practices. The new civilizations were mainly enhanced by the presence of new and advanced technologies, better weapons and massive influences CITATION Cat11 \l 1033 (Brekus and Gilpin 2011).Much history of Native Americans was lost during the European invasion into the new world. The widespread lack of written language among the Native Americans forced or made it almost impossible to maintain their cultures and civilizations. Their cultures and religions were killed slowly by the then slowly dominating white cultures, where there existed written language and other prevalent forms of languages.it has always been difficult to locate and trace any information regarding the religions of native Americans that inhabited north America long before the coming of white settlers CITATION Har11 \l 1033 (Rabinowitz and Tobin 2011).
American religion has been referred and defined in the singular way. However, the diversity with which the American religion existed and still exists is not to be ignored. In America, there are over five hundred recognized tribes explaining the existence of diversified beliefs and religious practices. It therefore becomes almost impossible to characterize the Native American religions in unison because of the existing diversification.
