Group project: Students will conduct a group project on a topic of their choice. While working on the group project, students will also be helping other groups with their projects through small-group discussions every week. The group project will provide an opportunity to apply one’s knowledge by completing a hands-on project. Students will also learn how to provide and receive feedback from others through peer-review groups. The group project is divided into two parts, a presentation and an individual research essay.    

 

Individual research essay: The research essay should be a minimum of 2,000 words (double spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins). A title page is not necessary, but the essay needs a creative title. In this essay, students are expected to explore concepts and themes we examine in class. In particular, students are expected to develop the topic they choose for their group project further by individually writing this research essay. Students should be using the course readings and materials as references as well as searching for additional references relevant to their argument. The research essay should be guided by a clear argument in the form of a thesis statement, critically analyze course readings, and cite all references following the Chicago Manual of Style (Author-Date). The research essay will allow students to think critically and write an academic paper.

It is essential to note that Korean female idol groups have become common not only in Korea but in other parts of the world. Ideally, these dance groups have their unique characteristics such as their sexuality dance works and the dancers also wear sexy clothes which leaves them exposed. Based on the dance videos that have been watched in class, it is essential to examine these videos and conduct external analyzes to determine the trends observed in the Korean-female idol groups. There are different reasons why the Korean-female idol groups have become sexualized over time; one major cause is due to the twenty-first-century globalization and the emergence of different websites such as YouTube where these dances and videos can be shared. The literature examines how globalization has influenced Korean idol dance groups and evaluates the different factors that facilitated the sexualization of Korean-female idol dances, these include facilitating the aesthetic and attractiveness of the dances and the need to attract more audience.
