Columbus Circle is a huge traffic complex located in Manhattan. Standing at its center is a monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus, the designer and the founder of the Columbus Circle. The circle is full of Zooming cars and hurrying-footed pedestrians. It is one of the heavily trafficked areas in the New York which attracts numerous tourists touring the Park as well as businesses who trade in the commercial center. There are many tourists' sites around the circle worth visiting such as the Jazz at Lincoln and the Time Warner Centre. Also, the shops at Columbus Circle and several malls are worth paying a trip. Although the Columbus Circle may be a fascinating place, there are some regrets that the residents, as well as the visitors, are undergoing. The intent of this paper is to highlight those regrets as well as hypothesizing the future of commerce and transportation at Columbus Circle.
Given the heavy traffic at the Columbus Centre, it is not surprising that one of the regrets by the residents and the visitors is the traffic jam. The Center experiences large traffic jam from the millions of visitors coming to tour the area as well as the business men running the businesses in the town. One might be held up in the jump for some hours. In the recent times, it has been realized that the jam is caused by the town Mayor's plan to cut down the number of personal vehicles entering the town. This is done through discouraging people from driving their vehicles and turning to bicycles or walking by foot. The town leadership is planning to reduce the road lanes so as to create more pedestrian and cyclist lanes. This engineered traffic jam has made many regrets of the Columbus Circle.
Another regret witnessed in the Columbus Circle is the openness to attack through bombings. The circle attracts a lot of people, those driving and the pedestrians. There is a possibility that the suicide bombers might target the area and kill thousands of the people including those enjoying the good scene of the monument and the well-decorated surrounding. Recently, a suspicious object was thrown at NYPD cruiser in Midtown leading to a shutdown of various streets. The closure of the streets disturbed businesses and visitors causing worries. The incident has raised fears over the possibility of the area being a target by terrorists due to large numbers of people gathering near the Columbus Circle.
Furthermore, the people living near Columbus Circle or the tourists visiting the area and end up booking hotels near the circle have regretted the noise. The noise is caused by the traffic as well as the bars located near the center to tap from the millions of visitors in the area. People are woken up by the noises in the mid of the night. This has been regrettable and makes the town less comfortable not only during the night but also during the day. Obviously, no one would like a lot of noise, and thus the noise reduces comforts in the town.
