History: The Populists
The Populists was the also known as the People’s Party, a short lived political party the ever existed in the United States of America in the 1887. It was founded in North Carolina with the poor white American farmers in North Carolina, texas and Alabama and other oppressed wheat farmers in the plain lands such as Kansas and Nebraska.
The party was representing issues of the radical white American who were against the hostility of the banks, the poor states of the roads and railways networks and the maltreatment by the elites (Gordon, 2008). The party generally was against the ill treatment of the government in the whole of America and was advocating for the writes of the southerners who felt misrepresented with the government which and its head office in the northern part of America and also the president being a northern resident who never knew the plight of the southerners.
The term populist were used to show an objection with the leading mainstream party and was the opposing party that showed the interests of the mainstream political parties. In 1896 the party combined with the labor unions and endorsed a nominee named William Jennings Bryan to run for presidency and help solve the problem facing the southerners.
The progressive era
The progressive era in the United States of America was a period that lied between the 1890’s to 1920’s; it’s also known as the period of reforms. Therefore, it was the period when the system (administrative system) was being purified from corruption activities. The system was aimed at removing corrupt government officials from office and also preventing them from holding the public offices in future (McGerr, 2003). The act of removing corruption from the administration system was led by progressives who majority of them supported Prohibition and at the same time advocating for the right for the women to vote. Something that was initially not in practice in the United States of America.
The New Deal
The New Deal this were series of economic implementations that were passed by the United States of America congerss during the first time of President Franklin Roosevelt. In a period between the periods of 1933 to 1938, the programs was in response to the Great Depression as historians named it the “3r’s” Relief, Reform and Recovery (Polenberg, 2005). With each “r” having its own meaning the first “r” “Relief” was recovery which aimed at improving the economy. The second “r” “Reform” was for reform aimed at reforming the financial system correcting and preventing a repeat of the same financial situation in America in future, and relief which meant the relief of the unemployed ad the poor from the suffering (Gordon, 2008).
