MCKINSEY & COMPANY
Known as the most prestigious firm, founded by James O. McKinsey in 1926. A huge transition occurred when the company was led by Marvin Bower, who formed the principles of the company that is recognized today. McKinsey & Company follows the ‘one-firm’ concept which requires an authority to have a strong standard decision-making procedure. It is a concept which prioritizes the firm’s goals and not any personal agenda or other motives, acting as a worldwide entity sharing norms and culture. This enables the company to provide the best opportunities and benefits to its clients and consultants. The company helps its clients from various sectors gain a deeper understanding of the global economy and how it may affect their own businesses during the decision-making process regarding critical issues (Chandler, 1962).
McKinsey & Company in comparison to other similar businesses highly spends on research, compensates consultants handsomely, and also invests in the sustenance of its alumni network, known to reach the biggest Fortune 500 leadership executives (StrategyCase.cmo, n.d.).
SWOT analysis reveals strengths of the firm such as high client satisfaction, remarkable track record, skilled employees, strong brand portfolio, excellent performance in amateur markets, automation of activities, dependable suppliers, and strong dealer relationship. Points of improvement are inefficient financial planning, limited expansion due to incompatible business structure, higher days inventory, limited success outside of business, and needs improvement on product demand forecasting. Opportunities that are possible for McKinsey & Company are building new revenue streams due to new trends, new customers from its online channel, lower transportation cost providing increased profit, lower inflation rate bringing more stability, and economic uptick which is a chance for the firm to increase its shares. Threats that they may face are the changing client behavior which is leaning more to online channels rather than physical facilities, decreased number of skilled employees in some parts of the global market, irregular supply of creative products, and seasonality of the demand for high-profit products (Edersheim, 2004).
