Research Paper Instructions:

The study of victimology is a relatively new endeavor. Starting in the 1940s, victimologists began studying how victim behavior could contribute to their victimization. The study of victimology evolved over time, and beginning in the 1940s, the focus of victimology shifted to victims' rights, how victims were treated in the criminal justice system, and how society responds to and treats victims. In this course, you learned about the victims' rights movement, the theory and history behind this movement, different types of victimization, and how to prevent victimization.
In a 750 to 1000-word research paper, explore a victimology topic of your choice. You may select from the following list of topics:
Homicide victimization
School violence
Workplace violence
Sexual assault
Stalking
Intimate partner violence
The goal of this paper should be to come up with an original argument based on your research of the topic. For example, your argument may be that stalking is often associated with dating violence. The research that you review and cite in your paper should support this argument. The objective in writing this final paper is to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the victimology discipline and your familiarity with the victimology literature.

As part of your research, you may refer to the course material for supporting evidence, but you must also use at least four credible, outside sources and cite them using APA format as well. Please include a mix of both primary and secondary sources, with at least three sources from a scholarly peer-reviewed journal. School Violence
School violence is one of the disciplinary problems that many schools tend to experience every year. It refers to any activity which can bring a distraction in a school’s education system. This includes to a wide range of activities among which are school shootings, bullying, including cyberbullying, use of weapons, verbal abuses and physical attacks such as fights, gangs, and the usage or possession of weapons (Varela et al., 2018). Similarly, school violence also refers to disputes or confrontations, whether verbal or physical, that students may face on their way to school, on their way home from school or at an event that the school funds, and end up getting hurt either physically or even psychologically. This write-up delves into the occurrence of school violence in schools and how they can be stopped.
Schools are places where parents entrust their children for not just intellectual growth but also growth in other aspects of life such as physically, socially, and emotionally among others (Varela et al., 2018). However, these very places of trust have often turned into centers of violence which have ended up causing much harm on the students, and even death in some cases. History records a number of incidents which were foremost forms of school violence that led to the study of violence in schools (U. S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, 2015). Among the documented incidents are cases where Andrew Kehoe bombed his school in Bath, Michigan, in 1927, killing many students, including himself; and Paul Orgeron’s bombing of a playground in Texas in 1959, killing both teachers and students as well as himself. Today, there are 272 known cases of school violence in the database of the Federal Bureau of Investigation recorded from early 1900s up to date.
According to research, there are many different factors that can increase a student’s likelihood to commit school violence. Psychologists point out that among these reasons include poor performance in academics, which can cause the students to attack the successful students, a history of violence, drug or substance abuse, and biological factors, with most of them being inherited genes (Varela et al., 2018). Other factors include an impecunious community in which violence is a normal thing, experiencing bullying from others, poor family organization, and behavioral disorders such as attention deficit disorders and impulsiveness (Varela et al., 2018).
