Services for Special Populations (150 Points)
Conduct Internet research regarding services in your geographic area for the following two groups: LGBT youth and the homeless. For each of these groups, write a summary and analysis of the services you find (approximately half devoted to each group). If your local community does not have services for these groups, expand your search to the nearest mid-size to major city and look for services there.
Be sure to address the following items when summarizing and analyzing the results of your research:
Identify the service organizations you find by name and include the full Web site information.
Describe the types of services that each service organization provides to assist members from each group.
Explain which of Maslow’s needs is addressed by each of the service organizations and describe how each need is met.
Evaluate whether or not adequate services for these groups are provided in your area. If not, assess the shortcomings.
Describe how services could be enhanced to better meet the needs of each group.
Describe how each service organization is funded.
Discuss and cite the course textbook and at least one additional credible source to support your analysis and positions. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find this credible source. Your paper should be 3-4 pages in length with document and citation formatting per CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.

Overview
Human services acts as a bridge which links those it serves with the existing governmental and social systems. According to Woodside and McClam (2012), human services such as those catering for LGBT and homeless exist as an intricate web with a primary role of helping those in need providing them with an array of services. The figure 1 below shows the interconnectivity and different services that can be executed by human service organizations.

Among these services, organizations offering support to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender among the youth and homelessness plays a vital role just like other organizations. This paper gives a summary of the services offered by these organizations to these groups in Colorado.
LGBT Service Organizations in Colorado
Gay Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender Community Center of Colorado
Website:
This center began operation in 1976 and was one of the initial organizations that advocated for the rights of lesbians and gays. This center offers advocacy, social activities and support to youths who are in need of LGBT services (coloradogives.org, 2015). The youth services are delivered through the Rainbow Alley drop-in center which serves LGBT as well as youths between 12-21 years old (coloradogives.org, 2015). The organization also offers counseling and advice in a bid to help the youth overcome issues of bullying, low self-esteem and substance abuse. The organization also offers encouragement on the education matters to transgender ultimately guiding them on how to have a positive impact in the society. According to Maslow’s hierarchy needs, the organization serves to help the youth attain the first level of biological needs of sex and the third level need of self-esteem. The organization offers adequate services in this region and has for a long time been referred to as the pace setter for other organizations offering these services. The services of this organization can be enhanced by creating greater awareness within the community of its existence as well as encouraging those who are associated to LGBT come out and seek support services from them. This can also be achieved by opening more support centers across Colorado outside of Denver. The community Center gets its funding from donations made by well-wishers and fundraisings.
