Babies is an absorbing look at a year in the lives of four babies born in different cultures: the bustling city of Tokyo; rural Mongolia; the desert region of Namibia; and San Francisco. Director Thomas Balmes recorded their lives over a period of 400 days and edited his footage to reveal the inter-connectedness of human experience. For 79 minutes, babies do what babies do: they get born; fed, bathed; cry; play; learn to sit, crawl, and walk; and begin to explore their worlds.
Please discuss briefly what you thought about the 4 babies portrayed in the film and what similarities were displayed and how they were different and the effect that culture played with all 4 babies.
600 words minimum.
Include items like: healthcare, recreation, family, community, education, hygiene, socialization, etc. Be creative as you like but provide specific examples of some of these regarding similarities and differences.
This assignment uses the discussion format but there is no requirement for response posts. You can respond if you choose to but there is no obligation.

Similarities
According to Brooks (2011), a baby's physique enables them interconnect with their immediate environment. One similarity among them is breastfeeding. Also, Berk and Meyers (2016) state that breastfeeding is important in extreme third-world countries as it prevents malnourishing. The four babies were sufficiently nourished. In one of the scenes, Mari keeps crying when his mother breastfeeds him. However, she always tries to feed him. Still, the children show a similar reflex when rooting for food as they continued to develop their physical skills. Although they had diverse ways of learning how to walk, the film concludes that the babies exhibited the same motor skills. For instance, Hattie showed a vital motor skill while peeling a banana. Berk and Meyers (2016) say that she used a "pincer grasp" as she coordinately held the banana with her index finger and thumb.
Differences
The documentary assesses processing of information, development of knowledge, language, and reasoning (Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, 2016). Each baby had different cognitive development because they interacted with different environments. For Hattie and Mari, who grew up in industrialized urban centers, the development was significantly fast as they could interact with numerous toys and other objects. On the other hand, Bayar’s and Ponijao’s nature contained animals, trees, and rocks. The two groups manifested different responses to their environments.
Language differences are another theme to examine in the film. The babies had different experiences with their parents and guardians. Babies tend to adopt the language of those who are around them during this phase. Some of them had nannies and mothers to sing and talk to them. These babies began cooing and babbling at different times. For Bayar, who spent most of the time lying down alone, his development was slower than the rest. California Department of Education (2016) assert...
