Agency Visit Part 1: Preparation (40 Points)
This assignment is in two parts, which comprise the Critical Thinking Activities for Modules 4 and 5.
This week you will choose an agency that engages in crisis intervention work in your community, make contact with that agency to arrange an interview with a representative of the organization, and design an instrument—i.e., a list of questions—that will guide your interview, which will focus on the crisis intervention work undertaken by the agency.
Your questions must seek to obtain the following information:
A brief description of the agency in terms of its mission, who is served in terms of clients, and what sorts of crises are addressed
A listing of the types of services provided
An explanation of how the agency is funded
An explanation of how staff is trained
A description of how the impacts of crisis—i.e., staff stress and burnout—are managed within the agency
Your deliverable for this week will include:
A description of the agency you wish to investigate (one or two paragraphs in length)
The name and title of the person you will interview, along with a brief description of his or her role in the agency (one or two paragraphs in length)
The list of the questions you want to ask to your interviewee

My interview will focus on the success of St.Gregory Retreat Center, which is a Christian organization with a mission to empower people. I would want to know how the center has transformed many lives of Americas. I am intending to interview the centers' clinical director who is in charge of the rehabilitation programs. I would like to understand more about St. Gregory Retreat Center’s rehabilitation programs and why it is considered as the best in terms of combining research into a single integrated program offering the best chance for recovery.
The center is known for providing a holistic approach in helping clients recover from addiction and prefer using psychological, social and other methods proven to be effective in treating substances abuse into a single approach (Treatment-Centers.net, 2015).St. Gregory targets alcohol addicts and other people with addictive behavior. The center’s empowerment based recovery programs are designed to address factors that drive addictive behaviors and dependency and how to change them (St. Gregory Retreat Centers, 2015).
During the interview, I would inquire why the center prefers using evidence-based interventions as a way of empowering clients to focus on their goals in life. The interview seeks to find out types of services provided by St. Gregory, which includes withdrawal management (St. Gregory Retreat Centers, 2015). Since for many people, detoxification is a traumatic experience as it requires their body to readjust to the normal state, free from substances, it becomes difficult for many people to readjust. In my interview I would like to understand how withdrawal management services are designed and how this strategy helps clients experience a safer and comfortable detoxification process. I will be interest to get more knowledge about the state of the art stabilization unit and how detoxification using medical withdrawal process works.
