Eye, Vision and Brain
Vision is one of the sensations is produced by the transmission of signals from the eye to the brain and vice versa, through the optic nerve. The occipital lobe of the brain predominantly handles the processing of raw information transmitted. Similarly, the parietal lobe is responsible for navigation, movement, and manipulation of the physical space. While the frontal lobe remains under speculation for its contribution in vision, the temporal lobe helps to retain and recover memories associated with vision and related tasks (Kotler, 2017). The eye also has distinct features, each having its functions. For instance, rods and cones inside the eye are in charge of peripheral vision and coloured vision, respectively.
Sensation and Perception
Sensation and perception are fundamentally different but highly related in their functions. While sensing is the input of data or signals from body organs, perception is the meaning assigned to those sensations. All human beings have eyes, ears, tongue and other organs through which the intake the surrounding information but how the signals are perceived relies heavily on his/her memory, learning, thought processes, emotions and expectations (Goldstein & Brockmole, 2016). Sensing and perceiving go hand in hand. While there is much information that goes unprocessed, selective attention helps the brain to focus on specific stimuli which enable the individual to concentrate on that particular event or to happen.
Transduction and Adaptation
Transduction is the process of energy conversion from one type to another. In the sensation process, these energy types can be changed from sound waves to electrical signals, and later from electrical signals into vibrations which ultimately makes different noises or sounds. Similarly, vision results from the transformation of light signals into electrical impulses or touch sensation are produced when pressure signals are transmitted through neurons by converting intro electrical signals (Fain, 2019). Just as all sensory stimuli are not attended to, many impulses are so regularly sensed that they ...
