Results
The results were analyzed using a three-way mixed ANOVA, to study the influence of sex and responder status as a between-subject variable and ethanol dose as a within subject repeated-measures variable, and the interaction of these on the specimen’s total distance traveled, time spent in the center of the box, and the number of vertical movements.
Testing Hypothesis 1
Female specimens were recorded to have higher distance travelled compared to the male specimens (figure 1) (df=1, F=7.401, p=.011). Additionally, high doses of ethanol showed a decrease in total distance travelled of both male and female specimen (figure 1) (df=1, F=4.894, p=.003). However, in table 1, we found that the ethanol doses and sex shows that there was no significant interaction on total distance traveled (df=1, F=0.392, p=.759).
Male specimens were observed to stay in the center compared to the female specimens (figure 2) (df=1, F=7.401, p=.011). In males, high doses of ethanol showed more time spent in the center while the females showed less time spent in the center with high dose of ethanol (figure 2) (df=1, p=.040). However, there is no significant effect in the time stayed in the center on ethanol dosage as seen in table 2 (df=1, p=.520).
