Analysis of Huntington’s Disease
Introduction and background
Huntington’s disease is a hereditary illness that leads to the destruction of nerve cells within the brain. Huntington’s disease has a significant effect on the functional capabilities of an individual, which leads to the motor, cognitive, and mental health issues. This illness is not usually apparent during birth, and the signs and symptoms become evident on the person until the ages of thirty-five and fifty-five years (Bates, Tabrizi, & Jones, 2014).
In rare occurrences, these symptoms can start at a very much younger age on the affected person. The paper will focus on discussing Huntington's disease. It will also highlight the various issues associated with the illness and also the current information concerning the disease. It will also highlight the ongoing research concerning Huntington's disease.
Analysis
Personal thoughts concerning the disease
Based on the research I conducted, I discovered that Huntington’s disease is not communicable and can only be passed on during conception. Additionally, if a person is not born with the faulty gene, they are highly unlikely to develop this illness. Before the research, I assumed that there was a cure for this illness. I also had not discovered the importance of physical fitness for a person with Huntington’s disease. As the disease progresses, caregivers must maintain regular daily routines for the affected person and also, provide them with an environment that has minimal distractions (Bates, Tabrizi, & Jones, 2014). Care must not be done to isolate individuals that have become slow to engage in conversations. Additionally, the public needs to be informed of the various treatment options, symptoms and also the necessary care required to treat Huntington’s disease.
People should also be aware that during the start of the illness, the functional abilities of the person gradually deteriorate over time. The progression rate and duration of the illness varies. The time from the emergence of Huntington’s disease to death is typically ten to thirty years (Guillory, & Carrasco, 2013). Depression is associated with this illness and can elevate the danger of suicide. The highest risk ...
