As a primary care giver one of the first and most natural elements when interacting with an infant is creating trust and forging a relationship. What is most interesting is that the trust element is developed over nonverbal (Swim & Douville-Watson, 2011). Much of the emotional connection that is formed between the care giver and the baby, is largely attributed to the responses that are given to baby’s expressive gestures, sound and movements. It is the success of this wordless relationship that enables or/and encourages the baby to develop trust towards their primary care giver (Lipsitt, 1982). It is also crucial to note that, this is a relationship that also affect the way that the child is able to form relationships in their latter life. As such, understanding how best to form this type of relationship and the element of developing trust, is crucial to the enhancement of children’s foundation.
The relationship that develops between the baby and the primary care giver is based on the attachment bond. This is the bond that ensures that the baby is able to feel safe around the care giver and can remain calm for long periods of time (Lipsitt, 1982). This is a key bond as it lays the foundation upon which the child is able to develop their nervous system and further be in a position to later on influence the element of intellectual, social, physical and emotional development. Where the bond is secure, this provides the ground for the child to be in a position to develop trust.
