Innovations and advancement in technology have brought the world to a new phase. Adverse weather changes have notable consequences for the people daily activities. Forecasting entails application of latest technological advancements to predict the weather condition of a given location at a given period. Weather forecasting dates back since from the ancestors’ time up today. However, the methods used to predict the conditions has been gradually changing from the traditional methods to the latest advancements. Notably, the astrologers have the mandate to forecast, warn people of impending danger and keep all the records for a certain duration. It is the voice of the nation that gives guidance on major activities within a certain region.
On October 22, 2012, a Hurricane Sandy struck the south of Kingston Jamaica. Notably the calamity was officially predicted the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) a week before its occurrence. According to Gregory (2013), the report indicated that the storm would act contrarily to the normal storms by turning westwards towards New Jersey. In the normal days, the Hurricanes head east towards the Atlantic. The national weather service later confirmed the validity of the information from ECMWF and later did a hardware and software upgrade so as to predict any future occurrence without the aid of an external party.
A considerable number of individuals lived in the storm-prone areas. The governments’ Red Cross Program evacuated thousands of families from areas that were likely to be struck. The leaders warned the public to remain vigilant and vacate promptly.
