What is Holacracy, and how long has it been around?
Holacracy is a complete system for self-management which encourages self-dependence and promotes entrepreneurship. The introduction of peer-to-peer operating system has replaced the old traditional management hierarchy as a result of Holacracy. Its major traits include increased efficiency, decentralized control system, greater adaptability and flexibility. Additionally, it offers fast response to the local demand. It enables the business to disperse authority, giving moral support to the employees and empowering them to take a role in leadership, as well as making reasonable decisions. In general, Holacracy is a set of rules which govern and give guidance to organizations, and enables its growth in the new diverse generation. This kind of system was developed in 2007. Since then, the idea has spread all over the world, and many startups and large companies have adopted the system. The use of Holacracy has accelerated fast due to its transparency and the flexibility.
Advantages of Holacracy
Holacracy system creates a number of benefits to the organization, enhancing its effectiveness and employee productivity. First, the system encourages creativity, innovation, efficiency, accountability and transparency in the company. The idea can be addressed more conveniently in an open and understandable way. Secondly, it has a centralized process that monitors work done by respective departments in an organization. Thirdly, it enables accountability and gives out equal chances to every department of the organization, which reduces decision making tasks for the top management in an organization. Finally, it has a well-defined and structured system, which categorizes the power and prevents misconduct caused by gender-based behaviors (Robertson, 2015).
Disadvantages of Holacracy
In the current industrial world, companies that use Holacracy have encountered a number of challenges. There has been a failure in the structural control unit as it scarcely generates passion, aggressiveness, and creativity in the marketplace. Some of the organizations fail to sustain the growing pressure in the market, creating challenges in the management of the company. Interconnectedness, environmental instability, high complexity and less time in the horizons are some of the significant challenges associated with Holacracy. However, despite the outlined disadvantages, a number of companies are enjoying the system after a successful implementation.
