Among other advanced countries, the United States has unique health care services as it spends more on this aspect than any other industrialized country. This country is known for having no single uniform health system. Health insurances are either provided by the government which is offered to specific groups or can be acquired from private entities. Private health insurance is offered by both profit- and non-profit commercial insurance companies. In the US, the majority of the population has either private or public health insurance, comprising 26% and 70% of the population respectively (Vogenberg, 2019).
Financing
As compared to other OECD countries, the US spends twice as much per person on hearth care services. Since there is no uniform nationwide health system, these expenses are funded by a complex combination of public payers comprising of the local, State, and Federal government along with private sectors and individual payments. Employers usually sponsor health insurance for their employees voluntarily. On the other hand, governmental programs mainly focus on the disabled, elderly, and some of the poor. These kinds of health insurance differ in the source of finances, benefits provided, and payments given to health providers. For the remaining uninsured individuals, they mostly receive their health services from public clinics and hospitals, through local and state health programs, or from private institutions funded through charity (Papanicolas, Woskie, & Jha, 2018).
Health services delivery system
Health care services provided to patients have various components. Health care providers consist of physicians, hospitals, diagnostic centers, community health centers, and nursing homes. About 6700 hospitals can be accessed throughout the United States including acute care, specialty, community, and Federal hospitals.
